Don't Make Me Sick!
Is there anybody out there who is as aggravated with the news media as I am?
They have jumped on this "Swine Flu " story with glee. It is as if they are delighted to have something frightening to report on again, and happy for the opportunity to scare the living daylights out of us. They are acting like vultures, circling their prey and the prey is our sense of personal safety. To accomplish this, hey have dusted off their collection of terrifying words like "alert","crisis", and "pandemic". They are asking questions like "Why are there deaths in Mexico, but not in the United States?" in an almost disappointed tone. Expert medical reporters like Sanjay Gupta have been "imbedded" in Mexico to "investigate" and bring us up to the minute information to get us through this emergency; information like "wash your hands frequently" so as not to spread germs," look for a fever" to help us recognize if we might be sick, and "stay home if you don't feel well". I mean honestly, is there really anyone among us who wasn't aware of these pearls of medical wisdom before this week? Did he really have to go to Mexico to find this out and report back to us? Now we have to worry about him bringing back the virus when he returns from his heroic mission. The networks have dragged out every documentary they have in their archives on past flu epidemics and the dangers of biological warfare. Every time I turn on the news I feel like I am back in Catholic School with Sister Mary Francis admonishing me to wash my hands and cover my mouth when I sneeze. Interviewers are prodding government officials about the possible need to "close the borders", as if we haven't been trying, unsuccessfully, to do this to solve our other border problems ... as if there were no planes and cruise ships... as if nobody had been to Mexico already from this country in the past month.
I am not saying that we shouldn't be aware that a new strain of flu is in the air and that we shouldn't practice sensible hygiene as a precaution. I'm not saying that health officials shouldn't keep an eye on its progress, but, in my opinion, the reporting can be more dangerous than the virus. The constant stress of this type of reporting can truly "scare the life out of us". The Law of Attraction states that what we put our attention on is what we manifest, so if we focus on sickness, we make a space for it to appear in our lives. I mean, haven't you ever had an appliance that is working just fine, break the day after mentioning to someone how well it is still working? Of course, not everyone believes in the mind/body connection, but I do, and I am not going to let these perpetual "Chicken Littles " scare me into getting ill. I have made up my mind that if a swine flu virus comes near me, I will quickly re-direct it over to NBC news. Those people over there are waiting for it.

You are right of course. Seems like all the media wants to do anymore is to whip people into a frenzy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that will listen to the slant they put on things. I think that it will only be a story until the next "big" news item breaks. Till then I will take it with a grain of salt.

I agree with you on this one. The media doesn't just report the news, they seem to escalate it to the point where everyone is terrified.

I loved it. I too believe in the law of attraction, and I had just told my granddaughter about that this weekend. She guffawed me but one day she will see. I agree on the news media overdoing it - they have so little to report on (they could find other things if they followed Joe Biden around- no offense to Democrats) that they go overboard on one or two things.
