Grandma's Best Laid Plans... Improved

She's two and a half and absolutely delightful! Of course, she is the brightest, most beautiful child in the world, with the only exception being her father and aunt when they were children.  My work and her busy little life of daycare, swimming lessons, adventures with mom and dad, etc. mean we don't see each other as often as I'd like, but today she's mine for the whole afternoon. Yippee! So I pick her up at her house. I arrange the car seat, making sure that the Dora doll is within reach. I mentally check that I have stocked up with the appropriate necessities: sani-wipes, juice boxes, M&M's for potty time, an extra change of clothing, lots of fruit... yes, I have it all. She's buckled in and we're off. "Nona thought I'd take you to the playground today, what do you think? Do you want to go to the playground?" I brightly begin. "No," she responds pleasantly. "O.K. then, mommy said  you really like the farm. Would you like to go to the farm?" I offer. "No," she says matter-of-factly. Oh dear, I'm thinking, where can I take her to  make this, our afternoon together, a special time?  "Well then, where would you like to go?" I ask. "I want to go to your house!" she replies firmly, with a big smile and a look of excitement on her face. Of course, how silly I am. At the tender age of two and a half, she already realizes that being  together is what will make the afternoon special. I smile with delight at the fact that a trip to Nona's house, in my granddaughter's eyes, obviously qualifies as an adventure. That's why grandchildren are so much fun!
